Community Bible Study’s story is rooted in prayer and a strong desire to help people grow in their relationship with Jesus by exploring the Bible. These two aspects remain as vital to who we are today as they were at the very beginning.
Community Bible Study was started by Lee Campbell in 1975 in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. As a result of prayer, over 500 people registered for the first class to study the Gospel of John and shortly after classes began to spread throughout the country.
1979 saw the first UK class start in London, the result of the prayers of Thera Smith of Agape UK. There are now nearly 100 classes and over 1000 members in the UK and Ireland.
We thank God for the blessing that Community Bible Study has been to us in Ireland, giving us a wonderful tool with which to share God’s transforming love for humanity with our friends and neighbours. Our desire is to offer this to many more people in our diverse communities in the UK.
Around the world, CBS is now active in over 80 countries, with the studies have been translated into over 60 languages. Africa is now the continent with the largest number of classes. Currently, there are over 700 classes in the USA with an additional thriving work in prisons as well as teen and children’s work. Our passion is: Everyone in the world… in the Word
“I will also speak of your testimonies before kings and shall not be put to shame, for I find my delight in your commandments, which I love.”
